HIRE AN EDUCATOR

Being a member, and now the chair, of the Education Committee has shown me that the members of Local 720 have a desire to learn more about our benefit plans, being a union member, and how many things work. But getting a group of members who can run classes on any topic has been very difficult. There should be a part-time staff member, or maybe full-time, who specializes in adult education and can run regular classes for the membership. The Education Committee could shift to helping a staff member run sign-ups and classes on a number of topics important to the membership of Local 720. Such classes could include:

IATSE Annuity Fund
Local 720 Pension
IATSE National Health & Welfare Plan
Structure and organization of Local 720 and the International (Union Civics)
The Contract Process
Basic Money Management/Financial Literacy
Unionism and Solidarity
The Role of Union Stewards
The Grievance Process
And other topics as needed

As a Local, we would need to decide on a budget for hiring an educator. We would also need to set a priority for the classes we want to take at our Hall.
